We are delighted to announce that the Rev. Matthew T. Curry will be appointed as our new pastor on July 1, 2021. Matt met with the Staff Parish Relations Committee, and all on the committee were very impressed with his many gifts for ministry. We believe he is exactly what our congregation needs to grow and thrive. Below is some information about Matt and his family.
Rev. Curry is presently and has been the director of Connectional Ministries since July 1, 2015. As the Director of Correctional Ministries (DCM), he is the steward of the vision of the annual conference; a leader of the process of transformation and renewal; responsible for alignment of resources, and overseer of the connectional ministries of New York Annual Conference, connecting local, district, annual conference, and general church ministries, as well as instrumental in planning the annual conference sessions. Prior to assuming that role, Matt was the lead pastor of Grace United Methodist Church of Valley Stream, NY. Before that, he servend as pastor of the UMC of Mount Kisco, NY and as associate pastor of Mamaroneck UMC. He earned a BA in music from Emory University and a Master of Divinity from Yale Divinity School. In 2012, he was granted an MA in Organizational Psychology and Change Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University. His research project for this degree was “Improving Engagement in the United Methodist Church.”
Matt lives in Katonah, NY, with his wife Maria and their three children, Lily (16), Thomas (8), and Charlie (3). They are excited to become part of the UMC of New Canaan.
